Sounds like your benefactor has withdrawn the free service. Have you tried any other networks?

mine connects to my router, but no internet access - wireless works fine on everything else, inc iphone.
it connects ok, but cant access the internet, i can access via mobile network & via usb cable using the usb pass through method.
Called HTC who went through eveything they could think off including taking the wep encryption off but nothing worked. HTC gave up....
I think theres some compatibility issues for some reason , as my experience is if it connects to the router & cant get internet access either the internet connections off (IP or phone line) or the connecting device has a problem.
as theres little settings on the wildfire s except wifi & the wep to type & it succesfully connects & the internet was on (tried on my iphone & laptop) it has to be the handset.
my router is a thompson speedtouch for anyone out there thinking of getting one of these phones & has this router.
when I mentioned the problem to HTC they imediately mentioned linksys routers - so presumable they have a problem with those too.

I took it back to the o2 store where they tried connecting to the wifi cloud access point - it got the the web page to log in on there, so it must be a compatability issue.
I got a refund. shame as it was nice, & small, though texting seemed to be awkward using the small screen.

seems like no one (even HTC) have an answer to the problem.

I too have a Linksys router and have experienced connection issues periodically, most recently with my HTC Wildfire. I use WEP.
To resolve I went into the admin function of my Linksys router and downloaded the latest firmware update for it. This resolved the issue of my router keep dropping network connections.
