To turn off vibrate when typing, go to SETTINGS/LANGUAGE & KEYBOARD/TOUCH INPUT/TEXT INPUT...scroll down 'Other Settings', uncheck 'Vibrate when typing'.

however what i'm still trying to find is how to prevent vibrate when typing numbers in the dail pad. Sad

nope. i'm not sure what haptic feedback was supposed to cover, but i disabled both that and the "vibrate while typing" options and the keypad (when dailing a number) still vibrates. in the other areas it doesn't - so the 2 options didn't do nothing... they just didn't also stop the dailing keypad vibrations. :|

Try Menu / Settings / Sound / and check everything, then uncheck what you've done again and restart the device.

didn't work.

i guess this phone doesn't support switching off keypad vibration (when dailing a number to phone someone). not even disabling ring vibration did the trick.

so i'll just stop trying. it's not a trainsmash. just ridiculous to think that the designers missed out on that option. i've even googled this thing for way too long now. Roll Eyes

Wait! I've got it!
open up the app called contacts. Hit menu, and select preferences. Scroll down and there's a checkbox that says "Enable Haptic Feedback". Uncheck that and it should change the vibration when you are dialling a number. :-)

are you referring to the market application "Contacts" (developed by Contapps Ltd)?

Nope, In the about page it simply says:

Mod name
WyContacts Froyo

Version
1.2

Credits
Wysie, ChainsDD, geesun, niuchl, rac2030, sileht and the rest of XDA! Smiley

No it wasn't that app, my one came with the Cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1 rom.
It might work within the app called people. Have a go. :-)

the people app is built in. i don't see those options in there under the menu.
i'll check out the app you mentioned and see what it does out of interest.

I found the file online - use this forum for help:
http://forum.samdroid.net/f9/mod-contacts-apk-phone-apk-w-315x315-callerid-eclair-2-1-froyo-aosp-cm-3339/

And you can download the app from http://www.mediafire.com/?bcau3bb8n2be9lc

I would make a folder in your sd card and back up all the files in your system/app folder so you have a folder in the sd card called sdcard/system/app (or just the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk) so you can put back what was originally there.

Just put it into your system/app folder using astro file manager or root explorer (or whatever file viewer application you use) and replace the Contacts.apk file.

You might have to press a button in the top right hand corner of your screen that says Mount R/W in order to copy the file in.

Once you've copied it in and replaced the file, turn the phone off and on again.

Open up the contacts app and do what I said earlier. Job done. :-)
